Late June to Mid-August provides a chance to whet our summer steelhead appetites again with a move to the North Umpqua, opening up possibilities for warm weather and hot fish! These 8-12 lb. summer steelies are very aerial and present a challenge to even the most experienced anglers. Mom may choose to stay poolside at one of Roseburg’s many hotels while Dad and the kids fish for fun. Take the whole family and enjoy the outdoor camping at Whistler’s Bend State Park. Lower flows and mellow summer rapids entice many families on afternoon or evening raft and inner tube float trips to catch up with the satisfied anglers for a picnic.
Anticipation is up at this time of year...the big boys are coming! Large schools of fall Chinook are fattening up just offshore. Any tide change can bring them streaming into our rivers. 15 to 50 lb. fish enter the estuaries on a search and destroy mission; a drowsy summer day trolling can suddenly turn into a five alarm fish fight. Rogue, Coos and Winchester Bays are ground zero for early Kings.
